Returning to Stockholm, Seeing A City Through Different Eyes
Stockholm was the first city I visited in Europe. It was January 2001, Stockholm was a picturesque version of how I'd always imagined Europe. I was on holidays visiting my friend Jenny. The city was full of tall, old, boldly coloured buildings. Narrow cobbled stone streets - lined with local merchants. It was snowing in Stockholm - the average temperature was negative 8 (bloody cold coming from the temperate climate of Seattle). I slept in two or three layers of clothing just to keep warm at night. Yet, it was a perfect place to venture into Europe for the first time!
This week, I ventured back to Stockholm for a work trip. The entire time, my mind was abuzz. I remember Old Town quite well, and can even point you to the shop where I bought my first piece of Amber. But something is different this time. I am older, more cultured, more travelled -- and I hope perhaps, more me! As the flood of memories of my time in Stockholm came rushing back, I had a greater sense of appreciatio nfor the ciy. More capability to digest its greatness. To soak in the people. To see beyond the first glance and into the depths of the culture that oozes out of every little corner shop. Yes, it is different being here for the second time.
Here are just a few pictures of my two days in Stockholm.
